Invited by the Finnish Bioenergy Association, BIOENERGIA, SURE was given the opportunity to present and discuss its scheme principles and certification approaches in readiness for the implementation of the RED II requirements.
With the scheme being presented to more than one hundred representatives from the Finnish bioenergy sector, discussions highlighted the pivotal role SURE will play in the near future.
Finland is one of the largest biomass markets in Europe and so a reliable, yet practical solution for the required proof of sustainability is of great importance, according to the participants. More so as it is expected that the political framework in Finland will change; particularly in terms of the trading of international biomass fuel and the mobilisation of alternative fuels, such as agricultural residues or biogenic waste. A ‘full scope scheme’ such as SURE will offer solutions from a single source.
In numerous follow-up talks, details on the Finnish market were clarified and further co-operation regarding the development and approach of the system were discussed and agreed.
