SURE IN TALKS WITH CERTIFICATION BODIES

As the EU Directive 2018/2001 comes into force, many thousands of companies within the bioenergy market, will be required to prove the sustainability of electricity and heat generation from biomass and biogas by 2021 at the latest.

As a result, SURE, has recently entered into talks with certification bodies and auditors at two REDcert seminars that took place this month in Siegburg and Warsaw; providing inspectors and certification bodies with the chance to familiarise themselves with the requirements of the scheme.

The REDcert-based certification system, which focusses on the implementation of the RED II requirements, for biomass and biogas power as well as heat generation, highlighted the challenges that lay ahead in terms of sustainable biomass.

To ensure that there are no bottlenecks during these audits and to allow for economic operators to document their compliance on time; SURE, is already promoting early qualification and recognition for auditors and certification bodies. This, in turn, enables the scheme to offer solutions to system participants.
